With December arriving it means one thing…the very last Aurifil Block has been revealed! The lovely and talented Pat Sloan designed the final block “Good Vibrations.” I got to work on mine immediately!
I now have successfully completed all 12 blocks of the Aurifil BOM. I personally am loving what I am seeing. Yes. It is busy. Yes. There is lots of color. Yes. There’s a lot to look at. Yes. I’m not stopping with just these. I will also be adding in my paper pieced blocks from the Bungalow Quilts Paper Piecing Fairy Tale BOM to this quilt as well. I’m not exactly sure how it’s all going to fit together in the end but I know it’s going to be incredible and everytime you look at this quilt you’ll see something new.
Sometimes it’s hard not to take offense to others when they voice their opinions about my work. I’ll admit it – I’m sensitive. But then, I just remind myself that I like what I am creating and that it is making ME happy. And that’s all we can hope for right – to continue to be inspired and to be happy.
I have two blocks from this quilt along that I’m particularly proud of. First the February block. This block required lots of piecing and atypical size shape cutting. And my corners look fantastic! I’ll be the first to admit that accurate piecing is not my specialty. That is part of the reason I do these quilt alongs – it really helps me work on becoming a better piecing by taking my timing and learning new techniques from other quilters. I think this block proved that my piecing has improved drastically!
The second block I’m really proud of is my July block.
I chose to English Paper Piece this entire block which means it was completely stitched by hand! Not only do I love how the colors all came out but I secretly do love having at least one tedious hand project that I can tote around with me to appointments, meetings, gymnastics and swimming. This way it keeps me creating at all times.
Did you have favorite blocks from this past year? Are you planning on joining in on the 2014 Quilt Along Fun?
