Entries for the May Project QUILTING Off Season Challenge: Pantone and a Winner!

June 5, 2013 by persimondreams 1 Comment

Six quilts or bags were inspired by the Off Season May Project Quilting Challenge Pantone.  Let’s take a closer look and then find out who Pip picked to win the great prize from Marcia’s Crafty Sewing & Quilting.

Picnic Basket

i made this 24″X32″ quilt for project quilting’s off-season pantone color challenge. i used a gingham charm pack that my husband recently bought for me, and some grey solid left over from “my favorite block quilt-a-long.” the white is some additional scraps left over from the two-color project quilting challenge…i think it used to be a tablecloth. i backed it with some very soft green floral fabric – not cotton, but silky soft almost voile-type stuff that i’m pretty sure used to be a tablecloth of some sort. i got some practice on my free-motion quilting techniques on the grey squares. i named it “picnic basket,” because it makes me want to go outside and have a picnic! (must be the gingham.)

my name’s erin, and i live and create in central PA! you can check out my blog at www.fallergirl.com

Star of Bethlehem

Star of Bethlehem

May Challenge
Wall hanging WIP, about 30″ square.
Well, as you can see, I didn’t get finished, but what a great learning experience and lots of joy! Why didn’t I finish? Life called and I answered, just like that!
I’m using machine quilting and am still a beginner. I drew the large flower on the center section of the star before sewing it. Now on the surrounding yellow sections I am doing a little meandering and in the orange sections I am trying a stem with multiple leaves up each side. Leah Day calls it Mario Vine, but I call mine Wonky Mario Vine, even so, I’m happy with it.
To finish I would like to quilt a vine and leaves on the white border and finish with a narrow orange binding. Will post a pic later.
Made by me, Janie, in College Station, TX.

ENTRY - Sticks of Pantone Quilt - Project QUILTING May 2013 Off Season Challenge

Sticks of Pantone

Using an awesome black/white/grey geometric printed fabric I added ‘sticks’ of the pantone colors – tender Shoots, African Violet and Nectarine.

Straight line quilting following the random ‘sticks’ of color add to the effect.

The end effect is simple but dramatic.

Approximate Size: 24″ x 36″
