I can’t believe it’s already June and I can’t believe that I actually finished all my May Goals. Not only did I have a very unlucky beginning of the month but I was away on a family vacation for the last week of it. It was an amazing trip and I can guarantee you’ll be seeing LOTS of pictures from it but I have to admit – it was nice to sit down at my sewing machine again today.
Alright – it’s time to set my June Goals for the ‘A Lovely Year of Finishes’. I started to mentally go through the projects I wanted to complete yet this year but when I realized the girls are going to be done with school by this time next Monday…I decided I should maybe keep my list pretty small.
Goal 1. Scrappy Trip Along
The Scrappy Trip Along rage started back in December. I joined in January. I have not caught up and I really want to mark this one off my list. I want to make this a BIG quilt…we’ll see.
There’s some good tips on sizing in THIS flickr discussion stream and THIS blog post from Just a Bit Frayed.
I think I’m going to go by an 8 x 9 grid or 72 blocks…we’ll see if that happens…it may be a twin or a double depending on how June goes.
I have 30 blocks done so far. Even though I haven’t been sewing on it I have been cutting strips out of my fabrics as I create scraps in my other projects to use in the trip along. I have a bunch of strips ready to be pieced. My one rule is that I’m using a fabric that reads ‘red’ as my middle diagonal. I’m doing this to add some ‘order’ to the quilt while keeping the whole scrappy feel in place. I’m also not sure what final layout design I’ll go with…the flickr group is very inspirational for that though!
Goal 2. Project QUILTING June Off Season Challenge – Texture
I just posted the June Off Season Challenge and it’s definitely on my ‘to do’ list for this month. I have so many things that inspire me it may be hard to decide which one to focus on for this quilt. Feel free to join in the fun – check out the challenge HERE.
Goal 3. Catch up and/or Keep up with the various quilt along’s I’m participating in.
I have fallen behind on so many quilt alongs…I really need to either catch up with them or realize that it just isn’t going to happen. Here’s the four that I really want to keep up with…
- 2013 Craftsy BOM – I’m adding these blocks to my 2012 Craftsy BOM blocks so I really need to catch up to this….
- City Sampler Quilt Along – I’m a new Tula Pink addict (I know – where have I been!?) so this quilt along is mandatory. I did my first three blocks before I left on my vacation and will work on the next three this coming week…I have a feeling I won’t have trouble keeping up with this one.
- Dancing Stars QAL – I initially was going to make LOTS of these blocks. As I get into it – it’s a lot of little piecing – and not just piecing…but paper piecing. Which I don’t mind…just not TONS of it. So, I think I’m going to finish blocks for the fabrics I have and see what I end up with. I can always make more if I decide to go bigger…
- Impromptu Along – I saw this on I’m a Ginger Monkey’s blog and it looks like my kind of quilt. I’m going to do a different color scheme than most I’m going to guess but it should be fabulous – can’t wait to get started. I just ordered my pattern!
I think that’s got to be it for June…Wish me Luck!

Oh I'm so glad to see someone else is still doing their scrappytripalong and it's not just me 😉 I'll definitely be adding it to one of my month's goals this year… hopefully. I love seeing how they're all turning out. Yours is looking great!
