Nine amazing quilts were created for the BONUS Project Quilting Challenge: Fat Quarter Shop Fabric Bundle – Tradition Times Three.  Today we’re going to take a closer look at four more of them (I’ll be sharing mine in a separate post so I can show you some more details…).

Remember – each participant started with the same 12 fabrics.  They had to use at least 10 of them and could add up to two other ones to their quilted piece.  I just love seeing how so many different pieces came from the same beginning!

I chose flying geese as my traditional block and switched it up a bit. I used 10 of the 12 fabrics, omitting the two beige fabrics and added in to the white background which is the same as one of the blue fabrics. All the geese are made from the fabrics in the bundle. I quilted waves into the quilt on my little home machine, making it the perfect nautical quilt.

Monkeying Around on the Beach with Kim

Project Quilting – bonus fat quarter project (Tradition Times Three)
60″x66″ quilt
I added 2 fabrics: light turquoise with white dots and a Tula Pink coral and teal print. I thought these helped move the challenge fabrics away from red-white-and-blue and in a direction I enjoyed more. I did not use either of the tan fabrics from the fat quarter pack.
I’ve always had an affection for the Monkey Wrench block, since my husband is a Snap-on Tools dealer. When I saw the challenge rules, I immediately knew I wanted to make the border into a huge block. And the center of a Monkey Wrench has the perfect opening for a mini-monkey. 🙂
I pieced the top in 2 evenings with no pattern – just an idea. The quilting was done by Stitches by Mindy. The thread is a pale coral pink and I chose a quilting motif that resembles beach grass, seaweed and anemone.

respiratory therapy

i used three different sized fan blocks (as well as lots of other techniques.) i used all of the fat quarter bundle fabrics, and added two of my own: an orange and a bluish-purple. this quilt is mostly foundation pieced on an old flannel sheet. the backing is also flannel, so i opted not to use batting. it is super warm and cuddly, but i think I’ll hang it on the wall. i did some hand embellishing (as time permitted.) and am pretty pleased with the end result! blogged here www.fallergirl.com/1/post/2013/05/respiratory-therapy.html
