15 minutes

June 27, 2013 by persimondreams 1 Comment

that is all you need.  Just 15 minutes a day and you can create things you never imagined.  This was what Victoria Findlay Wolfe taught us at her workshop ‘15 Minutes of Play’ that was held at Mill House Quilts in Waunakee yesterday.  I was super lucky that my friend Trisha told me about it and I was able to sign up before the class filled.

The day started with a fun little ‘trunk show’ of some of Victoria’s quilts (yes…we’re on a first name basis already.)  One of the many quilts that stuck out to me was Victoria’s Quilt titled ‘The Bird, Pierre’.  I just love the composition of this piece – the mix of tradition and modern…just wonderful!  Throughout the trunk show she showed us examples on how her work developed through just 15 minutes of play each day.  I’m going to delve any deeper than that on her technique other than you simply MUST give it a try.  It’s easy to do – you can get an autographed copy of her book ‘15 Minutes of Play’.  This book teaches you how to ‘make fabric’, it gives you challenges to inspire you, shows off 70 amazing quilts, and gives you ways to make this more modern technique work in traditional block fashion.

I decided to make ‘heart’ blocks with my made fabric.  I have a special project planned for these hearts that I’ll be sure to share with you as I finish them up!

Here’s Trish with one of her made fabric blocks.

You know a lot of good work is getting done when your quilt space looks like this!

Yes.  I was super cool and brought my own ball chair to sit on for the day…I LOVE IT!

Victoria was great at giving folks advice, direction or different ways to think about how to look at their made fabrics and what they can do with them.

A wonderful pile of Victoria’s quilts!

Cheryl sat across from me and didn’t even realize how cool her pieces were turning out until they were up on the wall!  I can’t wait to see what she ends up!

Here’s Kristin G, a fellow Madison Modern Quilt Guild-er, making her own fabric and really enjoying herself doing so!

You can see more pictures that Victoria took by checking out her blog post HERE.

victoriaVictoria’s daughter won her a Minion to take along on her travels like ‘Flat Stanley’ with pictures.  Trish, me and Victoria are photo-ed above with him.  victoria minionsI showed my girls the minion photo so they had to bring her ‘Stuart’ to be a friend to the big minion.  Our family LOVES Despicable Me and we CANNOT WAIT for Despicable Me 2 to come out on July 3rd

You can’t really see him but Pip is holding the Stuart Minion in this photo.

So glad you were able to make the workshop! Your kids are sweet as can be! I will forever think of you as the bouncy minion. 🙂 so great to spend time in your neck of the woods!
