A Lovely Year of Finishes: Mid-March Check In

March 15, 2013 by persimondreams 6 Comments

Can you believe we’re already half way through March?  It’s time for me to do my Mid-March Check in for the ‘A Lovely Year of Finishes’.  So – lets take a look and see how I’m doing on all the goals I set this My Buttonmonth.

Goal 1:  Project QUILTING, Challenge 5

FINISHED!

Local Foods Grow Strong Communities - ENTRY

Click on the picture above to read more on how my quilt ‘Local Foods Grow Strong Communities’ came to be.

Goal 2: Prepare Quilts for the Prairie Heritage Quilt Show and Competition.

NOT FINISHED

I entered multiple quilts into the Prairie Heritage Quilt Show and Competition in Sun Prairie.  The show is next month and the quilts have to be dropped off on April 5th.  I still have to add hanging sleeves and labels to the quilts.  Not hard but I just can’t forget to do it – and it’s one of those things that will probably have to happen when Pip isn’t around.

What quilts did I enter?

Category D. Bed Size Quilts, pieced, machine quilted

Christmas In July Block-A-Thon

Goal 3:  Baby Quilt

WIP – just needs the binding

IMG_5859

This is a project that I also have to finish in March.  I have a baby shower at the end of the month and I need to make the baby quilt that my mom and I will be giving.

Here’s what I came up with from the ‘panels’ from Critter Community from Suzy Ultman for Robert Kaufmann.  I did some linear quilting and some wavy quilting to compliment the whimsy geometric feel of the quilt.  When I’m done I’ll be sure to photograph the back but I backed in a cozy farm alphabet printed flannel.  It will be perfect for the Minnesota weather this baby will be growing up in.

Now – I just need to hand stitch the binding, add a label and it will be all ready to gift on the 30th!

Goal 4:  Bind my 1930’s Repro Sampler Quilt

FINISHED!

1930s BOM Sampler from Fabrics n Quilts

I still haven’t met with my friend yet but I’m sure I’ll be getting it to her soon.  Can’t wait to see what she thinks!

Goal 5: Project QUILTING, Challenge 6

The sixth and final Project QUILTING Challenge will go up this Sunday, March 17th.

Overall, I would say I had a productive beginning of March –which is a good things because I have quite a few ‘non-quilt’ plans for the last half.

You have been very productive. Wish I could say the same. I have 3 projects in progress – but I'm not progressing fast enough. 🙂

You are doing wonderfully on your goals! I have decided to enter 2 quilts into our country fair this year, so I guess I should consider figuring out sleeves too…

The first year I entered quilts in a show I underestimated the amount of time it takes to make the sleeves and found myself stitching in the parking lot at drop off – exaggerating a bit but that's how it felt. You've gotten so much done!

LOVE the baby quilt! So bright and colorful and non-traditional 'baby" – LOVE it!
