The Challenge – My Favorite Color

We all have favorite colors. The one we like to wear might be different than the one we like to decorate with. And that might be different than the one we buy for our fabric stash. This week we are going to work with only one of your favorites.

  1. For this challenge your color scheme will be white and 1 other color. Use as many shades of that color as you wish, but do not add any other colors to the front of your project, including embellishments.
  2. Your project can be any size or shape. It does not need to be a traditional quilt.
  3. Your project must have a name.
  4. Please remember that these projects need to be created during the week of the challenge.
  5. POST your entries with a description of your creative process, including where you are (ie, I create in Madison, WI)and the size of your project by Sunday, January 27th, 2013, by NOON, CDT, to this flickr group, Project QUILTING with Persimon Dreams –OR email a picture/description of your completed project to {lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com} with PROJECT QUILTING in the subject line.If you wish to receive critiques on your piece – the good and critical – please add your photo’s to this group as well:http://www.flickr.com/groups/1628629@N24/Are you stuck?  Need a little ‘Tim Gunn’ advice during the week?  Or are you just so excited on how things are going along and what to share your WIP?  We have a group for that!http://www.flickr.com/groups/1430386@N24/

Challenge Clarifications

There have been a couple of questions/clarifications I would like to respond to all in one spot for everyone.  If you have more just let me know and I’ll contact Diane and see what she says.

This may sound like a silly question, but when using a print fabric can it have another color in it or just shades of your chosen color?

Other colors in it are fine as long as the fabric “reads” your chosen color.

Can we use prints as long as they have only the favorite color and white?

Yes – as long as the fabric ‘reads’ your chosen color.

Can it have shades of white in it as well….e.g. whites to creams?
Yes, shades of white are acceptable and in Diane’s mind a cream is a white.

Do we HAVE to include white in our project or can it just be the shades of the one color?

You do not have to use white.  It can be just one color.

Read more about the ‘Infinite Variety: Three Generations of Red and White Quilts’ .

NEW THIS SEASON!  Linky Party!

Add blog posts or flickr photo’s of your thought process/works in progress etc throughout the week to the linky party below!  Then we can all easily follow along with you!

I'm still using green but found something to go with the chartreuse green that I love. I'm doing the happy dance now. I love all greens but the other ones just didn't do it for what I had hoped to make.

[…] The Project QUILTING Challenge ‘My Favorite Color‘ was a difficult one for me.  I’m not really a ‘white’ person…it makes me nervous.  I don’t want to get it dirty and ruin the whole thing (although I do realize you could technically stain ANY fabric on a quilt…but white just makes me extra nervous I guess).  So not into it in fact that I challenged my mother-in-law, Diane, aka, the challenge giver to do this challenge as well…she obviously didn’t have a problem with it…see her quilt HERE.
