I saw this challenge ages ago but only just this weekend finally had a chance to create a block for it.
Your challenge is to use the colors of the QuiltCon logo to make a quilt block that reflects what modern quilting means to you.
You can read more about the challenge and guidelines HERE. There’s still a few more days to get your block in so it’s not too late!
I knew right away what I wanted to do but I just needed to find some time to do it – isn’t that always the case? I cheated slightly and went to one of my sponsors shops,
The Fat Quarter Shop, and purchased a bundle of fabric that had all the colors I could use already in it! It’s hard to get any easier than that for choosing fabrics. Plus – now the scraps are added to my ever growing stash.
I made this block after a late night of apple cider donuts and caramel apples so I didn’t take step by step pictures. I’m calling it my ‘Geometric Modern Log Cabin’. Using fun ‘windows’ in squares and rectangles and following the basic guidelines of a log cabin block – this is the block I came up with!
I used either white, light grey, or dark grey in either the middle or border of each ‘window’ and altered which one it was as I went around. I used a different color from the ‘Quilt Con’ colors in each ‘window’ too. I am beyond happy with how this turned out!
If anyone is interested in making one of these blocks I would be happy to make up a tutorial. Just leave a comment if you think that would be good!
You are allowed to enter three blocks into the challenge but due to my time constraints I’m just going to ‘throw all my blocks into one basket’ and just enter this one.

Thanks so much! I love it too! I think I'm going to design an entire quilt off it…

Love your quilt con entry. I have enjoyed seeing everyone's blocks for that event. I have waited to the absolute last minute but I will whip mine up this weekend. Ugh. Popping over from #talknt. Just wanted to say hi.
