I’m sure you’ve all realized by now that I LOVE Quilt Alongs! I’m so excited that the first block of the Free Spirit Christmas in July Block-a-thon has been posted! Before I get to revealing my first block I have to share with you the fabrics I pulled for my quilt!
So…I’ve decided that my ‘Christmas’ part of this quilt will just be having this quilt finished – pieced, quilted and bound, by Christmas. The fabrics I chose to use are definitely not Christmas-y – but I’m excited about how it’s going to look out.
For the ‘white’ portion of my quilt I’m going to use black/grey/white prints like au-then-tic by Sweetwater for moda, ‘love city’ from The Alexander Henry Fabrics Collection, and GERONIMO by Fabri-Quilt, Inc. I may have to pull some more fabrics from my stash to have enough for this portion of the quilt – I’ll be sure to share with you what I’ve chosen if I get to that point.
For the ‘colored’ portion of my quilt I pulled a bunch of fabrics from my ‘a stitch in color’ fabric collection. I pulled out the whiter/lighter/and grey ones so that they wouldn’t blend too much with my ‘whites’. I think this is going to be one DRAMATIC quilt.
And now that I’m looking at my fabrics in this picture I see that I have to pull out a few with too much grey in them – like the grey with yellow swirl and the grey/yellow striped…glad I took the photo! I may not have noticed otherwise!
Block 1
Here’s my first block – ‘Tinsel’ designed by Fiberosity. This is a great block that looks way more difficult than it is – a great block design!
The next block goes up on Thursday and it’s from the illustrious Pat Sloan! Can’t wait!
See what everyone’s block looks like in the flickr group – don’t forget to share yours!
