Fabrics N Quilts Scrap Quilt Contest 2012 – Free Form Quilt WIP Report

July 6, 2012 by persimondreams 4 Comments

Fabrics N Quilts  Scrap Challenge Quilt Contest 2012

I’m so excited to be sharing you the progress I’ve made thus far on my scrap quilt contest challenge for Fabrics N Quilts.

Fabric Scraps organized by color

Right away I knew that I was going to use all the scraps that I sorted out earlier this year.  I’ve been using them for other quilt alongs and I’m barely making a dent in them.  I need to do something else.

I also knew right away that I wanted to use the free form technique like I did for my ‘Architectural Elements’ Project QUILTING Challenge Quilt – Barn Bones.  I love how you start with one thing in this technqiue and by the end you have a completely different looking quilt!  I can’t wait for you all to watch as my quilt grows and evolves and evolves again and evolves again…

Red ScrapsI started with my RED scraps.

Red Free Form Block - StartAnd here’s a start of the free form quilt block I made from them.  One of my favorite things about using up scraps is that the fabrics remind me of the other things I once created with them.  It’s like taking a little trip back in time.   Black/white scrapsHere’s a photo of my black and black and white scraps I used for my center free form block. black and white free form block - startBlack and Black/White Free Form Block    Orange ScrapsOrange Scrap Bin Free Form Orange - startOrange Free Form Block Yellow Free Form Block StartI forgot to take a picture of my yellow scraps but here’s my Yellow Free Form Block Green ScrapsGreen Scraps – I have three Tupperware’s with green scraps – I think I need to upgrade the size of my bins!

Here’s an overview of the five free form quilt blocks I have so far.

Have you sort of figured out what’s going on in my mind as I create this quilt yet?

I just started my blue-green block…I have 4 main blocks to go and if you haven’t figured it out after that…I’ll tell you!

Have you started your quilt for the contest yet?

PS.  Have you entered to win a yard of my original spoonflower fabric yet?

Thanks so much! I can't wait to see where the quilt takes me either! I love it when the quilt decides what it wants 😉

I am thinking color wheel, but that would be too easy! I can't wait to see where you take us on this journey! Your "barn" quilt is fabulous!

I am thinking color wheel too…but it's going to be all blended and crazy… at least that's what's going on in my mind right now. We'll see what it tells me!
