It’s Where I Live – A Closer Look, Part 2

March 16, 2012 by persimondreams Leave a Comment

Let’s start taking a closer look at a few more of the amazing pieces created for the ‘It’s Where I Live’ Project QUILTING Challenge. It's Where I Live - closer look, Part 2

Quilter:  Becky’s Blabber

Project Quilting round 5

Project Quilting round 5My 3 color letters for this challenge are O, P, and T. I chose orange, purple, and turquoise. I used to be an avid geocacher, so decided to use our latitude and longitude coordinates (sorry for blocking some of them out). It’s dimensions are 16 inches by 21 inches, made in Pendleton, Oregon. I blogged about it here: becky-beckysblabber.blogspot.com/2012/03/project-quilting…

Ribbons of the Sky

Ribbons of the Sky 007 (Medium)Marcia Wachuta – Marcia’s Crafty Sewing and Quilting It’s Where I Live – Project Quilting Challenge Number 5. I live on County Rd W out in the country in Boscobel, Wisconsin. My colors are: Whimsical Greens, Blues, and Watermelon. I used the three colors to create “Ribbons of the Sky”. This is my view at the end of the day! My Ribbons of the Sky Quilt measures 12” by 17”. I stitched two pieces of fabric together with a wavy seam. I thread painted to create my horizon view. Quilter:  Sally’s Angelworks

Sally’s Needle Garden – Project Quilting

Sally's Needle Garden - Project QuiltingHere is my Project Quilting challenge #5 project. My letters/colors that I had to work with were Brown, Red and Teal…and I went with simple colors so I could play a little this week with new design. Using Peltex and a "wonky" star block as my base, I created a book for my needles. I was cleaning out a drawer in my craft studio, and I found a gob of needles. I’ve been wanting to make a needle book for my "home" (ie…craft studio! LOL) and so I thought this challenge was the perfect opportunity. For the outside, I embroidered "Sally’s needle garden" and added flowers, rickrack, buttons, and crocheted flowers. I also popped some dragonfly brads on there. For the inside, I used some white solid fabric sandwiched with batting, and I drew my own "garden" marking each flower and tree with a different type of needle. Then I sewed it all together to make a fun book. I found I had needlepoint needles (dull) so I added a card with holes punched to accommodate the needles. I sewed a vintage button and stamped a pin cushion on the card then sewed it to the back of the book So fun!! This needle book is 9.5"x8.5" and was made in Texas!!

Quilter:  Stephie Stories

Fields and Furrows

Fields and FurrowsFor my Project Quilting, Season 3 Week 5 project I choose a traditional Fields and Furrows quilt. (I will take better pictures in the daylight but I wanted to get this posted so it wasn’t late.) As soon as I read the challenge I knew what I wanted to do. I’ve wanted to do a log cabin for a long time and this was the perfect excuse. I am surrounded by farm land and the farmers are beginning to plow the earth. The dark rich soil against what is left of the nasty winter ground it beautiful. My color letters were B, W, and I. I did a search for color names and came across a color chart on Wikipedia. I decided to go with Black, Wheat, and India Green. I love the black I had on hand. It has quit a bit of brown in it and it feels earthy. The wheat is some gingham fabric I’ve had for ever and the India Green was actually a left over from week 1. The green represents tractors in the field plowing up the ground. (This is John Deere country after all, the tractors had to be green.) The final quilt is 32 inches square. It was created in Webster City, IA.
