Project QUILTING – An Interview with Spring Water Designs

December 14, 2010 by persimondreams 1 Comment

And it’s time for another great interview with one of the talented contenders in Season 1 of Project QUILTING  – SpringWaterDesigns.SpringWaterDesigns Project Quilting Entries for SEASON 1 What made you decide to join Project QUILTING?  I took part in Project Quilting for the push it gave me to create something I wouldn’t necessarily normally make.  The quick turnaround time made me "Just Do It", and not "think" myself out of something. What was your favorite part about Project QUILTING?  Seeing the variety of projects that everyone came up with while working under the same parameters was so cool! Which Challenge in Season 1 (you can include the 2 pre-season projects) was your favorite? and why…  My Recycled Scout Memory Quilt The Recycle Challenge because it made me make my son’s Scout Memory Quilt which I had pushed to the back burner. Which Challenges did you come up with your idea immediately and which took some marinating?  Another Angle My "Wandering the World" quilt from the Road Trip challenge came to me immediately because I used one of my daughter’s favorite quotes from JRR Tolkein.   Elsie's Growth Chart Quilt I also knew immediately that for the Office Supply challenge I wanted to make the Art Center/Growth Chart for my grand daughter’s birthday.  Diamond Shaped Candle Mat The Black & White Challenge I had to think about for a while because I was out of town that week and didn’t have my sewing machine with me. Did you try any new techniques for your projects during these challenges and if so, what were they?  I’m typically a traditional quilter and have never done any art quilts.  Fear Not Little One With my "Fear Not Little One" quilt I did a little art collage quilt with embellishments.  I also added Angelina embellishments to my Office Supply quilt, and I had never worked with Angelina fibers before. How has Project QUILTING made you a better Quilter?  Project Quilting has definitely helped me to feel more creative and to grow as a fiber artist! Did you find the judges comments beneficial, annoying, or inconsequential?  Why?  I’ve never entered any juried competitions, and I found that I looked forward to hearing the judges critiques ~ especially the ones that offered suggestions or spoke to the strengths/weaknesses of the piece. Do you think the judging format should be more structured, less structured, stay the same?  and why?  I wouldn’t mess with a good thing ~ keep it fun 🙂 What was your favorite piece that you created for the Project QUILTING challenge?  Logs I think my favorite was "Logs" from the Log Cabin challenge.  I did this one in reproduction fabrics and was my most comfortable style. What was your top three favorite pieces that someone else created for the Project QUILTING challenge?  I liked so many of them for different reasons, but I’d have to say my three favorites were the Route 66 quilt Rt 66, RoadTrip1 the Film Canister quilts from the Road Trip Challenge Stars over America and the quilt shaped like the US from the Stars Over America challenge.  Thanks for taking the time to sharing your experience with Project QUILTING with us all SpringWaterDesigns! ***SEASON 2 begins in less than a MONTH!***
