I know you all were expecting me to wait until December to pull out the Christmas-themed Dresden Neighborhood BUT I thought by pulling it out a month early it would give folks a little kick to think about what a fun Christmas gift this mini quilt could make! This is not my first Christmas Dresden Neighborhood and I wanted to make sure I didn’t make the exact same one as before. I went through my Christmas scraps and then remembered that I still had some fabrics from Tula Pink’s “Holiday Homies” collection. I just love this fabric and had a lot of fun fussy cutting parts of it out for this Dresden Neighborhood. I worked late into the night last night so I would have this neighborhood finished for you today instead of just partially done. I’ve also made a lot of progress on the previous neighborhoods I worked on during apple season and soon I’ll be ready to share them with you with all their doors, windows, and roofs!
And here she is! I found this fantastic squirrel and hedgehog winter fabric in my stash and I just couldn’t resist using it for the background. I love how some of the tails of the creatures make it look like chimneys! The Holiday Homies – the deer, dog and goose were all the perfect size to fussy cut into a house! I mixed a few more fabrics from the Holiday Homies collection with other Christmas fabrics from my stash to create this look. I used Aurifil 2370, 40 wt for all the blanket stitch details on this quilt. It was the perfect mossy green for this piece – enough contrast without being overpowering. This neighborhood was perfect to start getting me in the holiday spirit. Ironically we got the first Wisconsin snowfall the night I finished most of it! So – if you get “bah-humbuggy” (yes Trish, I know that’s not a real word) at the holidays – maybe give making a Dresden Neighborhood a try to lift your spirits. Here’s the a photo of the first Christmas themed Dresden Neighborhood I made! I still have enough of that special santa fabric to applique a santa flying over the roof tops to my new one. Do you think I should? Now it’s your turn! Let’s see what you come up with for your Dresden Neighborhood for the #DresdenNeighborhoodSAL!
