It’s Wednesday! Guess what that means? It’s time for another block tutorial for the 52 Twisted Traditional Block Quilt Along!
Old Fish Puzzle Block Tutorial for
52 Twisted Traditional Block Quilt Along
Finished Block Size – 10” x 10”
I twisted the traditional block – Old Maids Puzzle to look like two fish in the ocean! Have fun!
Cutting Instructions
Fabric 1 (Blue)
6 – 3.5” x 3.5” squares
4 – 3” x 3” squares
Fabric 2 (green/blue)
2 – 3.5” x 3.5” squares
Fabric 3 (Pink)
2 – 3.5” x 3.5” squares
1 – 3” x 3” square
Fabric 4 (orange)
2 – 3.5” x 3.5” squares
1 – 3” x 3” square
Directions
We need to start by making Half Square Triangles (HSTs). On the wrong sides of the 3.5” green, pink, and orange squares, draw a diagonal water soluble pen.
Pair your 3.5” blue squares right sides together with your 3.5” green, pink and orange squares.
Sew seams a ¼-inch on both sides of the line you drew.
Cut along the line you drew.
Iron towards the blue fabric. Square the blocks up to 3.5” squares.
Layout your squares and HST in the same formation I show above.
You will have two extra HST blocks. Put these aside to use in a different project or future block.
Sew the 16 blocks together ironing your seams in opposite directions.
Grab your micron pen and draw on your eyes and mouths. Feel free to embroider these on to your ‘fish’ if you’d like.
And there you have it – an Old Fish Puzzle! Thanks for following along and I hope you enjoyed this block tutorial!
