I’m guessing you are all shocked that I finally did it! This is the last of 49 sashing tutorials for the Home Sweet Home Quilt Along! Now that’ they’re all posted I’m hoping you will finish yours up and share it with us! You can share block/sashing progress photo’s in the Flickr Group too.
41. Bird House Sashing
Cutting Instructions
Fabric 1 (Cream print) – 1 square: 3.5” x 3.5” Fabric 2 (Blue Matryoshka)– 2 squares: 1.5” x 1.5” Fabric 3 (dark green): 2 strips: 9.5” x 1.5” Fabric 4 (orange batik): 1 strip: 9.5” x 1.5” Fabric 5 (scrap): 1.5” square
Piecing Instructions
Sew the two Fabric 3 strips to either side of the Fabric 4 strip. Iron towards the outer strips. For the ‘house’ portion of the sashing sew the two fabric 2 squares to the upper corners of Fabric 1. I’m going to show you pictures from the Trees in Blossom Sashing Tutorial for adding the upper corners. Using a water soluble en, mark a line diagonally across the 1.5” squares. Lay the squares on the corners of Fabric 2. Sew along the line you drew. (In the Bird House we’ll just be doing this on two corners). Trim the corners. Sew the tree house to the triple strips. Iron towards the strips. Fuse the scrap 1.5” square to iron on fusible. I like Steam a Seam. Trace around a thread spool to get your circular shape for the bird house door. Fuse to the center of the bird house. Here you can see the Bird House (41) sashing is to the left of Block 6, Tree of Life. I hope you all have enjoyed following along with the Home Sweet Home Quilt Along. I had a great experiencing running my first Quilt Along and I look forward to the next one to start in 2013 – My Favorite Block Quilt Along. And here is my final Home Sweet Home Quilt. Machine quilted by Marcia’s Crafty Sewing & Quilting. Every time I look at it – I see something new. This was definitely a fun quilt to make!
