Happy Monday everyone! I hope you’re ready to make some HST’s (Half Square Triangles) because today I’m going to show you quite a few sashing options you have with your HSTs.
First we’ll look at sashing 13. Geese a Flying
Tutorials for the Home Sweet Home Quilt Along
Cutting Instructions:
Cut 4 squares 4″x 4” of different fabrics – (I did two ‘greens’ and two blues)
Construction Instructions:
Pair each of the blocks together in twos (in my case – one blue with one green, etc) and place them right sides together. Draw a line from one corner to the other. Sew a 1/4” seam on either side of the line.
Once both of your seams are sewn, cut along the line you sewed. Iron towards the darker fabric. Square you block to 3.5” square. Arrange your four diagonal blocks as shown above and sew them together to create a 3.5” x 12.5” sahsing.
35. Chevron – Sahsing and Cornerstones
Cutting Instructions (for both sashing and cornerstones):
Three 4” x 4” squares of Fabric 1
Three 4” x 4” squares of Fabric 2
Construction Instructions
Follow the instructions shown above for ‘Geese a Flying’ to create the Chevron Sashing. By using the same fabrics you create a really neat pattern.
I created two extra 3.5” squares to use as cornerstones. I placed them purposely next to my ‘Chevron’ sashing to extend the effect.
Both Sashings shown here with the Acid Cottage Block.
